PETOSKEY – May 2, 2024 – St. Michael High School (SMHS), Northern Michigan’s only Classical Catholic high school, is pleased to announce that its faithful benefactors will fund a 20-percent reduction in the cost of annual tuition from $7,500 to $6,000 per year. The new policy is effective for the 2024-25 school year.
Creation of the SMHS Tuition Offset Fund will have no impact on existing tuition discounts (for sibling groups) or other financial aid opportunities offered at the school.
“While we’ve all seen our ‘cost of living’ soar with resurgent inflation and much higher interest rates, this hits young and working families particularly hard,” noted SMHS Executive Director Larry Rudnicki. “We’re committed to making St. Michael more affordable and within reach of all families that seek a better, stronger, more hopeful, more joyful education for their young men and women. We’re blessed by and grateful for our generous benefactors. Thank you and God bless you!”
The SMHS leadership team endeavors to optimize educational costs for its students as it continues to explore innovative, forward-thinking tuition and funding models for the school. “We will gladly consider other bold, new initiatives, as well as further tuition reduction, subject to the success of our Offset Fund,” stated Mr. Rudnicki.

“With relentless pursuit of ‘Truth, Goodness, and Beauty,’ the Chesterton curriculum offered at St. Michael is second to none,” added incoming Headmaster Kevin Weed. “Our community is blessed with committed donors who recognize that rigorous, faith-filled education is precisely what our students need to combat and transcend the hopelessness and despair endemic to the modern world.”
“There is indeed a better way,” concluded Mr. Weed, “and we invite you to check it out for yourself by scheduling a ‘shadow day’ for your student, attending an upcoming St. Michael event, or just grabbing a cup of coffee with me or with Mr. Rudnicki or others on our team. Please call the school at your convenience – or email info@smhsaca.org – to reach us and learn more.”
