St. Michael High School Invites You to Its 2022 Commencement Ceremony!

PETOSKEY – May 25, 2022 – St. Michael High School (SMHS), Northern Michigan’s only Classical Catholic high school, is pleased to invite you to its 2022 Commencement ceremony – this Sunday, May 29 at 4:00pm at the Grand Unity Event Center!

The Commencement Address for this year’s event, celebrating the sixth graduating class of SMHS, will be delivered by distinguished Catholic author, poet, and commentator, Dr. Anthony Esolen, who will present “Rebuilding Culture through Classical Education”.

Dr. Esolen’s address, which will be delivered via live stream, will punctuate Commencement exercises that will also feature remarks by the Headmaster and the Valedictorian, as well as the awarding of diplomas to graduates.

Dr. Esolen has authored more than 25 books, and has a special affinity for classical schooling and Christian apologetics.  Of particular interest to Christians are his two most recent works, Out of the Ashes: Rebuilding American Culture, and its sequel, Nostalgia: Going Home in a Homeless World.

His book Ten Ways to Destroy the Imagination of Your Child has been described as “a worthy successor to C.S. Lewis’s The Abolition of Man”, and its sequel, Life Under Compulsion: Ten Ways to Destroy the Humanity of Your Child, has been called “essential reading for parents, educators, and anyone who is concerned to rescue children from the tedious and vacuous thing childhood has become.”

He is renowned for his essays on the Catholic faith and for clear social commentaries.  His work is regularly featured in Touchstone, Crisis, First Things, The Catholic Thing, Chronicles, Magnificat, and American Greatness.

Dr. Esolen was born and raised in the coal mining country of Northeastern Pennsylvania.  He received his B.A. from Princeton University, and his Ph. D. from the University of North Carolina.  He is a professor and writer in residence at Magdalen College of the Liberal Arts in Warner, New Hampshire.

The Grand Unity Event Center is located at 1106 Charlevoix Ave (US-31), on the west side of Petoskey.
