PETOSKEY – January 13, 2025 – St. Michael High School (SMHS), the only classical high school in Northern Michigan, is pleased to invite you to its Bishop Baraga Dinner – Saturday, February 1 at Holy Childhood of Jesus Parish Hall, 150 W. Main St., downtown Harbor Springs. Doors open at 4:30pm with dinner at 5:30pm.
Join us as we celebrate the incredible life and legacy of Venerable Bishop Frederic Baraga, ’the Snowshoe Priest’ who labored tirelessly to bring the hope and joy of Jesus Christ to the wilderness of Northern Michigan, beginning right here at L’Arbre Croche nearly two centuries ago. The evening will also feature catering by Polish Kitchen, fellowship, and fun!
Tickets are $25 per person or $85 per family and can be purchased after Sunday Masses at Holy Childhood, at St. Michael High School, via the St. Michael website, or directly on-line by clicking here.
“Bishop Baraga’s chosen motto ‘Unum Est Necessarium’ – ‘Only One Thing Is Necessary’ – embodies his unwavering focus and extraordinary missionary zeal,” stated SMHS Headmaster Kevin Weed. “He gave up the comfortable life of a Slovenian aristocrat for one of great difficulty, ministering to the tribes, trappers, and miners of the Upper Great Lakes. At St. Michael, we’re privileged to continue his holy and vital work, evangelizing and catechizing in Northern Michigan in our present day.”
Mr. Weed continued, “We enter the new year buoyed by the enthusiasm within our schoolhouse and excellent prospects for continued growth of our student body. We also look forward to the pending launch of our ‘Strategic Planning’ process, led by the nation’s premier full-service Catholic education growth consultancy, Partners In Mission. We invite you to enjoy a festive evening with us on February 1, as well as to learn how you can get involved at St. Michael High School. Please consider joining our team and helping us build!”
