St. Michael High School Presents ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’

PETOSKEY – May 20, 2024 – St. Michael High School (SMHS), Northern Michigan’s only Classical Catholic high school, is pleased to announce its performance of William Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”, this Tuesday and Wednesday at 7:00pm at the Crooked Tree Arts Center, 461 E. Mitchell St., downtown Petoskey.

Tickets can be purchased at the door and cost $5 for students, $10 for adults, and $20 per family.

SMHS Drama Director Maartje Nolan explained, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream is Shakespeare’s most frequently performed play and among his most enduring and endearing comedies. Our production is in a classical style – the students have worked to learn their lines with the Elizabethan English as their own.  It’s a family-friendly presentation that runs about 90 minutes long.”

Mrs. Nolan concluded, “Our production is graced with a wonderful cast and crew, featuring eager newcomers and our talented senior veterans in several leading roles. Thanks for your support and we hope to see you there!”

The St. Michael Drama Department presents several productions each school year, offering students opportunities both on-stage and behind the scenes. Since 2019, the SMHS troupe has delivered outstanding performances of Shakespeare’s “The Tempest” and “Twelfth Night”, Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol”, Louisa May Alcott’s “Little Women”, Oscar Wilde’s “The Importance of Being Earnest”, and more.

“Although fewer and fewer schools endeavor to take on Shakespeare these days, at St. Michael we continue to embrace the challenge,” added incoming SMHS Headmaster Kevin Weed. “The Bard’s understanding of human nature was uncanny – and our pursuit of the truth he presents takes our learning to a higher level. We look forward to watching our students bring this classic tale to stage and celebrating the production with the local community.”

St. Michael High School is High School with a Higher Purpose and a proud member of the Chesterton Schools Network. Established in 2013, the St. Michael mission is to nurture and elevate a new generation of joyful leaders educated in the Classical tradition and truth of the Catholic faith.  For information on SMHS, please visit the school website at stmichaelchesterton.org.
