PETOSKEY – July 17, 2025 – St. Michael High School (SMHS), the only Classical high school in Northern Michigan, is pleased to announce that Mr. Aaron Brooks has joined its faculty and leadership team. He will serve at SMHS as Head of its Math & Science Department and as its Director of Homeschool Outreach.
Mr. Brooks is a career educator, with more than 25 years of experience as a classroom teacher, primarily in Gaylord Community Schools, specializing in Mathematics. A devout Catholic and homeschool Dad, he is a firm believer in the classical curriculum, lived out in the classroom and in the home. He and his wife Rachel have lived in Petoskey for the last 25 years, raising and homeschooling their five children.
“We’re delighted and blessed to welcome Aaron to St. Michael,” proclaimed SMHS Headmaster Mr. Kevin Weed. “Not only will Aaron strengthen our math and science offerings (fulfilling a crucial objective of our recently completed Strategic Plan) but, even more critically, he brings invaluable experience and mission-focus to our school and our leadership team.”
Regarding his appointment, Mr. Brooks stated, “I’m grateful for the opportunity to live and share the Gospel at St. Michael, helping establish solid secondary Catholic education right here in Petoskey. I’m excited to begin this new chapter of my career and I look forward to working with Kevin and the St. Michael team!”
Mr. Weed continued, “As we connect with Christian educators all over the country, largely via the Chesterton Schools Network (chestertonschoolsnetwork.org) and the St. John Henry Newman Institute (jhni.org), one conclusion is unmistakable: homeschooling isn’t a passing fad, but rather it continues to grow as a nationwide movement. As parents are the primary educators of their children, we provide opportunities to supplement their efforts with school and community experiences that can’t be replicated in the home.”
“We’re already collaborating with homeschool families from across Northern Michigan through our part-time Classical Enrichment Program. As a fellow homeschool parent, Aaron brings an insider perspective toward the enhancement and expansion of this program. Please join me in welcoming Mr. Brooks to St. Michael!”
